Menstrual Hygiene Day Celebration.
Introduction:
In celebration of Menstrual Hygiene Day, May 28th, 2025, Olaoye Muibat Adesewa Child Care Foundation visited Oreyo Junior Grammar School to educate students on menstrual health and personal hygiene.
The event aimed to promote awareness, healthy practices, and empowerment among young students.
Event Highlights
1. Opening Prayer: Mrs. Airiohuodion, Oreyo School Councillor, led the opening prayer, setting a positive tone for the event.
2. National Anthem: Students sang the national anthem, demonstrating patriotism and unity.
3. Founder’s Welcome Address
Olaoye Muibat Adesewa, Founder of Olaoye Muibat Adesewa Child Care Foundation (OMACCF), warmly welcomed guests and students. She highlighted OMACCF’s commitment to community development, emphasizing the organization’s efforts to empower young students and promote healthy practices. She expressed gratitude to partners, speakers, and attendees, setting the tone for a meaningful celebration of Menstrual Hygiene Day.
4. Keynote Speeches:
1. Dr. Yetunde Odusolu (Consultant Public Health Physician) delivered a comprehensive presentation on menstrual health, hygiene, and management.
2. Aina Vivian (Chief Nursing Officer) explained the meaning, importance, and practices of personal hygiene.
5. Demonstrations:
1. Proper use and disposal of sanitary pads: Students learned the correct methods for using and disposing of sanitary pads, dispelling myths and misconceptions.
2. Handwashing technique: The importance of proper handwashing was emphasized, and students practiced the correct technique.
6. Interactive Puzzle Game: An engaging word-formation game was played, promoting learning and fun.
7. Refreshments and Photo Hubs: Students enjoyed refreshments and took memorable photos.
8. Closing Remarks: Mrs. Adeoye Adeola (District Officer, Maryland District II) delivered closing remarks, summarizing the event’s key takeaways.
Notable Moments
– A student mentioned that sanitary pads should be flushed in the toilet, and a quick correction was made to prevent clogging.
– The Chief Nursing Officer advised female students not to use toilet paper for personal hygiene due to potential adverse effects on the vagina.
– The interactive puzzle game was enjoyable and educational, with examples like “Cube” and “A” forming the word “CUBA.” Thanks to our amiable facilitator in person of Josephine Boluwatife Akinpelu the executive director of Operation Fred Africa Initiative.
Outcome:
Direct Beneficiaries
– Number of students who received personal hygiene materials and education on menstrual health and hygiene were 70 ( 35 boys, 35 girls).
Each pupil received personal hygiene materials and other perks, leaving them happy and fulfilled. The event successfully promoted awareness and healthy practices regarding menstrual health and hygiene.
Indirect Beneficiaries
– Families and communities of the students, benefited from the knowledge and practices shared.
– The broader community, also benefited from increased awareness and promotion of menstrual health and hygiene practices through the informations spread by the students of Oreyo Junior Grammar School.
Conclusion
The Menstrual Hygiene Day celebration was a resounding success, thanks to the collaborative efforts of Olaoye Muibat Adesewa Child Care Foundation, Oreyo Junior Grammar School, and notable guests. The event empowered young students with knowledge and resources, promoting a healthier and more informed community.
